The rescue happened on Sunday afternoon, July 16, when members of the Rye Police Department and the city's fire department were sent to Playland Parkway when two cars became stuck in floodwater, according to Rye Police.

The two vehicles became stuck after attempting to drive through the water, causing the cars to be flooded and rendering them inoperable, police said.

The incident happened in the midst of a slow-moving storm system that dumped several inches of rain in the Hudson Valley on Sunday.

No injuries were reported from the incident.

Authorities used the incident as evidence that residents should never attempt to drive through standing floodwater.

"Driving through standing floodwater is never a good idea," the department said, adding, "You could get trapped and even worse, lose your life."
